

BATTALION SMALL-BORE SHOOTING (POSTAL) COMPETITION – 2009-10
COMPOSITION/TIMINGS:
6 The Competition will run between now & 31st March 2010 (flexible).
7. There will be at least 2 x Shoots at each Coy, which will take place in the evenings between 1900-2100.
8. For ease of execution D&G ACF will be split into 2 x areas as follows;
Coys A, C, & D – East.
Coys B, E Sqn, F & G – West.
9. The Competition will be in 3 phases;
a. Phase 1:
Postal – (58 Dets).
10. Coy Shooting Officers (or designate) must liaise with the Coy Training Officer and CAA to organise the finer details of each shoot.
11. In liaison with CAA's Coy Shooting Officers are to co-ordinate each shoot; in particular, ensuring the selected ranges are logistically suitable for ease of attendance, weapons & the transportation of ammunition.
12. Each Company is to provide the RCO and Safety Supervisors.
13. Each Coy is also expected to arrange concurrent activity commensurate with the subject.
14. Each RCO/Company must ensure a RASP & Risk Assessments are in place.
15. The RCO is requested to be at the Range approximately 30 minutes before to ensure fans are working & running, and to also set-up the range.
16. The Detachment Commander (or designate) at each of the Ranges is also requested to be at the Range/Detachment by 1830hrs to "Open-up" and assist in the "Setting-up" of the range.
17. Each Coy shooting Officer is requested to contact Capt G. Downes to confirm details of each shoot.
18. Once we know the winning Detachment in each Coy I will confirm with each Coy Shooting Officer the 7 Detachments and the details of Phase 2.
b. Phase 2:
7 Detachments.
19. One shoot will be organised for each area, (East & West) to determine which 2 x Coys go forward to Phase 3.
20. Capt G. Downes will liaise with the CAA's to arrange a convenient date & range for phase 2. He will also act as Witnessing/Marking Officer for both East & West shoots.
c. Phase 3 – Shoot-Off:
21. Once we know which 2 Coys have the highest scores I will inform Shooting Officers of the details.
22. Capt G. Downes will again liaise with a CAA to arrange a convenient date & range for phase 3. He will also act as Witnessing/Marking Officer.
23. There will be a prizes ceremony immediately after Phase 3 shoot.
TIES:
24. Ties in Phase 1 will be organised by Coy Shooting Officers.
25. Ties in Phase 2 will be organised by Capt G. Downes.
TARGETS:
26. Target - No29 (25yd) – Coys may have a limited supply of these; however, Coy CAA's are requested to ensure enough are available by liaising with the Bn. CAA.
27. Each Target must be clearly marked (PRINTED) with the following;
Cadets Rank – Name – Coy – Det.
Target No 1. (Sighters) Do not return.
Target No 2. "Grouping".
Target No 3. "Timed".
28. "Witnessing Officers" for Phase 1 are to retain and mark all Shot Targets, and once marked to ensure they are posted to/dropped off at BHQ for Capt G. Downes for confirmation of "Scores" (see Match Rules, para 30) who will then confirm with Coy Shooting Officers the results and which team/s will be called forward for Phase 2.
29. After marking the Targets a tie situation exists Coy Shooting Officers are to arrange another range night to conduct the shoot-off.
30. Any returned Target/s that are un-identifiable will obviously be "Marked" but not credited, and could therefore significantly reduce a team/s chance of winning – see match conditions for full details.
31. All Targets will be available for perusal by interested parties.
AMMUNITION:
32. Each Company CAA is requested to draw 750 .22 Rimfire rounds direct from the QM.

MATCH RULES:
ELIGIBILITY:
1. Only Cadets from the Dyfed & Glamorgan ACF are eligible to take part in the competition.
Cadet qualifications;
2. Cadets must be enrolled in the ACF, be any star level, & have passed the SAA test on the No8 rifle.
3. Cadets under the age 14 years must be supervised one-to-one by an adult over the age of 21 years.
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
Range Safety Action Plan (RASP);
4. It is realised that generic RASP's are used for many .22 ranges, however, RASP's are to be "Legal", subject to the normal "Procedure" and available for inspection on each of the Coy Shoots.
Activity/Medical Risk Assessments;
5. These are to be completed by the RCO for each individual range, particularly Medical Risk Assessments as details of certain medical facilities will be different at each location, these must also be available for inspection at each of the Coy shoots.
Teams/Shooters;
6. Each Detachment is expected to enter a team of 4 plus reserves, if for any reason a Detachment does not take part, please inform Capt G. Downes on the day.
7. Team lists are to be handed to Capt G. Downes on arrival.
8. If a Detachment does not have enough Cadets to form a team, it is permitted to "Borrow" a Cadet/s from "1" other Detachment, as it our intention to give all Cadets the opportunity to take part, however, this must be pre-organised, it will not be permitted on the day.
Reserves/Substitutions;
9. Each Detachment is advised to have reserves, and Substitutions can be made on the day, as no special considerations will be made, and Detachment teams will fire with the number of Cadets on the day.
Ranges;
10. As listed above.
Rifles;
11. Strictly confined to the No8 as issued, the trigger pull must not be changed to "Single Pressure".
12. Each Coy is responsible for ensuring enough No 8’s are available on the day for shooting & con-current activity. Normal regulations apply to the transportation of Weapons & Ammunition.
Sights;
13. Sights as issued, no modifications may be carried out to the backsight or foresight as issued by the MOD, tunnel sights are not permitted.
Slings & Rests;
14. Slings & Rests are permitted, and are encouraged.
Sighters;
15. Each member of the team will have 5 sighters, to include 2 "Coached Sighting Shots". Cadets will be allowed to see the targets before going on to fire the competition proper.
Ammunition;
16. .22 Rimfire as issued to the Cadet forces by the MOD.
17. CAA's are requested to draw 750 .22 Rimfire rounds from the QM, and RCO's are to ensure enough rounds are available on the day, with a small percentage for misfires.
18. Normal Regulations apply to the transportation of Ammunition.
Zeroing;
19. Platoons are strongly advised to find the time to prepare & zero the weapons before firing the competition.
Targets;
20. Only No29 (25yd) targets are to be used.
21. CAA's are requested to ensure they have enough targets available.
22. Cadet's – Rank, Name, Initials, Coy & Detachment (in block capital) is to be written in the rear of Targets.
23. Each Target must also be marked with the type of shoot – "GROUPING" & "TIMED".
24. Only the 2 x "Scoring Targets" per Cadet (Grouping & Timed) should be returned.
25. RCO's must ensure the information on the targets is correct before passing on to the Witnessing Officers for scoring.
Misfires;
26. All misfires will be treated as per Ref A above.
27. In the event of a misfire, a replacement round will be issued and a time allowance given.
28. All misfired rounds must be returned to the CAA for disposal.
Spotting & Coaching;
29. There will be no spotting or coaching other than that set out in Para. 15 above.
Scoring;
30. Apart from the Witnessing Officer at Phase 1 & Capt G. Downes who will check all targets and confirm scores, no other person is allowed to gauge or interfere with shot holes in any way. Where shots are close together and are uncertain, certificates giving the number of shots actually fired must be attached to the target (Annex 2) by the RCO; otherwise only 1 shot/hole will be credited.
31. Targets will be available for perusal by interested parties.
Surplus shots;
32. If more shots/holes are identified on a firers target, and is more than the rounds issued, the firer will only be credited with the amount of rounds issued i.e. 5 rounds issued - 5 rounds/holes credited, however, the higher score will count.
MATCH CONDITIONS:
Position; Prone (supported – if required).
Locations; Various Ranges throughout Dyfed & Glamorgan ACF.
Time frame; Immediate – 31st March 2010 (flexible).
Ammunition; 15 x .22 rounds per firer.
60 rounds per team.
Targets; No 29 (25yd).
Exposures; a. 5 x Sighters No time limit.
b. 5 x rounds grouping No time limit.
c. 5 x rounds timed 1 x exposure of 60 seconds (scoring).
Scoring; a. 5 rounds grouping;
25mm group 25 points.
32mm group 20 points.
40mm group 15 points.
50mm group 10 points.
63mm group 05 points.
b. 5 rounds timed;
Bull 5 points per hit.
Inner Circle 4 points per hit.
Outer Circle 3 points per hit.
Magpie 2 points per hit.
HPS; 25 per firer (both grouping & timed) 50 in total, (Team HPS 200pts).
Conditions of shoot; 3 x 5 round issues to be made to Cadets while in the prone position on the Firing Point.
Explain details of each shoot, and remind when on firing point.
a. Sighting;
1. Detail - down, test & adjust.
2. Firers adopt the prone position.
3. Detail with one round load.
4. 5 rounds sighting – in your own time go on.
5. Anyone not finished.
6. Unload.
7. For inspection port arms.
8. Wpns cleared.
9. Move back off FP, collect your target, make sure you replace it with a new one.
10. Targets should be checked to evaluate the Cadets results before going on to the grouping application.
b. Grouping; 1-3. As above
4. 5 rounds grouping, in your own time go on.
5-9. As above.
10. Replace targets with a new one.
c. Timed; 1-3. As above.
4. 5 rounds scoring, in 1 exposure of 60 seconds, watch and shoot, watch and shoot.
5-8. As above.
9. Move back off firing point and go and collect your target.
10. Carry out a declaration.
Scoring; Phase 1 by Coy Shooting Officers (or designate) then sent to Capt G. Downes for confirmation.
Phase 2 by Capt G. Downes.
Phase 3 by Capt G. Downes.
Certificates of rounds fired to be completed if necessary by the RCO (Annex 3).
