Lord Lieutenant’s Poppy Appeal Awards 2010
       On Wednesday 18 August 2010, three Cadets from Bridgend Detachment, C Company (Bridgend and Pontypridd Areas) Army Cadet Force (ACF) were presented with a record six awards from The Lord Lieutenant’s Poppy Appeal Cadet Awards South East Wales. The event was held in Pontypridd Rugby Club, with representatives from the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), Army Cadet Force (ACF), Air Training Corps (ATC) attending. The awards themselves were presented by The Lord Lieutenant for Mid Glamorgan Mrs. Kathrin Thomas CVO JP, plus various other VIPs from both the Police Force and Fire & Rescue Service.
       This annual Award ceremony is to reward all the Cadet Forces in the South East Wales area for all the money they collected and hard work they put in for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal during the previous year.
       The South East Wales Area Overall Individual Award went to local chef Cadet Corporal (Cpl) Roberto Grech (17).  Roberto also won the Service Award Army Cadet Force Individual Winner Award as well.
    The Service Award Army Cadet Force Individual Runner Up Award was won by Cadet Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Mark Gillett (16), who plans to join the Army in September.
     The South East Wales Area Overall Unit Award went to Bridgend Detachment Army Cadet Force who raised a grand total of £3,999, a thousand pound more than the Unit Runner Up! Bridgend Detachment also received the Service Award Army Cadet Force Unit Winner Award.
      Cadet Lance Corporal (LCpl) Zoe Dykes (17) was also presented with the Community Award Chief Fire Officer South Wales Fire & Rescue Service Award for Individual Endeavour Glamorgan Counties.
           Every cadet who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to working equally as hard next year!
